Tip 1: The right wood storage for your fireplace

The right wood storage is crucial so that you can fully enjoy the cozy warmth of your fireplace. Here are the most important tips for you:

  • Fresh wood should always be split as it dries faster and burns more efficiently. According to the BImSchV, damp wood may not be burned: It has a low calorific value, releases less energy and more pollutants.
  • Good ventilation and protection from the weather are important when storing wood: logs should be protected from rain and rising ground moisture. An ideal storage area is therefore roofed, raised and air-permeable.

With the right log storage, you not only ensure more efficient combustion, but also a longer service life for your fireplace.

Tip 2: Maintain safety distances

When operating a wood-burning stove, it is essential to maintain the correct safety distances to prevent fires and ensure safe use. Observe the following guidelines:

  • Keep a distance of 20 cm from the back wall (unless you are using one of our zero wall clearance stoves ) and from the side walls. For stoves with side panels, this should be 65 cm.
  • Make sure there is sufficient distance from flammable objects in the radiation area of the firebox door. You can find the correct distance for your fireplace in the technical drawings!

A spark protection plate for your floor is essential to reduce the risk of flying sparks and ensure additional safety. These specifications are minimum distances and may vary depending on the model. You can find the exact distances in the operating instructions for your fireplace.

A wood moisture meter is used to measure the moisture content of a log.

Tip 3: Measure the wood moisture correctly

Wood moisture is crucial for optimum combustion.

  • It is therefore best to use a wood moisture meter and always measure on the cut side of the log, not on the bark.
  • The moisture content should be below 20 %, ideally 12 % to 20 %.

When using dry wood, you are heating efficiently and in an environmentally friendly way.
